"The right to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed"
I am the flag of the United States,
I am on top of the world's largest building,
so that each person can choose their own fates.
I am a symbol of government billing, Peace, Democracy, and of Freedom. My colors contain the red, white, and blue.
My enemies, I instill fear in them.
Ev'ry day I continue to fly for you.
Every night, I can not, will not sleep.
I have witnessed supreme sacrifices, for our soldiers, they layed in a heap.
In cauldron of battle, these are spices.
I have seen our many fine hours, greatest achievements, and we've won flowers.
(written by Chairman Lyons' daughter 11-14-07, when she was fourteen) I'm very proud of her and her patriotism.

Progressives, failing to sway the American people, now seek to omit early American history in North Carolina
2-6-10 The proposed curriculum changes to high school students in North Carolina is frightening. The North Carolina Board of Education is considering changes that would omit the teaching of American History prior to 1877, and fill the time with another "environmental awareness studies" class. This is not designed to benefit the students, but rather to benefit the progressive (national socialist) agenda.
The question that comes to mind is, "Why choose 1877 as a cutoff point?" The post Civil War military occupation of the south, the former Confederate states, ended in 1877, thus reconstruction largely ended in 1877. By omitting events before 1877, students would not learn about such things as The events leading up to the American Revolution, the Revolution itself, the framing of our Constitution, the writing of the Star Spangled Banner, The events leading up to the Civil war, The Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil War, and reconstruction of the south post civil war. Many patriotic and essential lessons for every American will be lost to those who need it most, our children. Withholding these lessons about the founding of our nation will have a negative effect on the Patriotism of future generations. National pride will be much less common. That is what the socialists in America want. National pride and patriotism retains our Constitutional, Representative Republican form of government. If we remain a Republic with a Constitution that limits government activities and supports free citizens, the socialists progressive agenda cannot move forward.
There is another reason though. The modern progressive era began to take root in the last quarter of the 19th century. For example, the Interstate Commerce act was passed in 1887. It was in effect the first federal regulatory agency, and now some 120 years later, we are overrun with federal regulatory agencies. The conservation movement was also born post 1877, and it has grown to become an international environmental movement that would need a column of it's own to describe, very much in favor of government regulation of everything from home building to energy use, the auto industry, to manufacturing. Their hand is in almost all aspects of society, and it all started in the late 19th century. The concept that socialism was a better form of government was born around that time. The idea that government control of private industry to establish "fairness" in economic matters, and that government should play a role in solving social problems began to take hold.
The government in this proposed form (socialism) would in effect watch society to ensure fairness and equality, but who would "watch the watchers?" No matter how "fair" they try to make society, someone is still at the top, even in socialism, even in communism, there remains an elite class who makes decisions for others, and lives a more lavish lifestyle. A true utopian society where all are equal is a dream that cannot be reached, no matter how many times it has been tried. The modern progressives, working ever toward the goal of socialism in America, have an air of "superiority" when they speak and interact with others. Their supposed "enlightened" views on life and America drive them to push for changes such as omission of vital American history.
The changes that have been proposed for North Carolina high school students would negatively impact their patriotism as well as their national pride, eventually leading to an apathetic nation. Apathy when applied to national pride and patriotism results in a uninterested public, which in turn allows the government to increase control over the citizenry, increase regulation, taxes, and wealth redistribution, thereby furthering their socialist agenda. The preservation and continued teaching of our history as a nation, from our founding, is essential for patriotism to not only survive but thrive. If we have a strong sense of national pride and patriotism, we thrive as a nation. These changes must not be allowed to take effect. I urge you to contact the NC Board of Education and oppose this curriculum change. God Bless,

Should the Constitution be abolished?
2-20-10 Well I suppose it depends on who you ask. There are those Americans, such as I, who ardently defend the Constitution and advocate following it to the letter without exception. There are however, a great and growing number of Americans who feel that the Constitution is outdated, and should either be changed or abolished altogether. Opponents of the Constitution are in error either because of their ignorance or because of the limits the Constitution places on government, and the empowerment given to the people hinders some from advancing their socialist agenda. Education about what is and isn't "Constitutional" is the anchor of this website, and the Constitution is the anchor to our fading republic.
Key Constitutional principle: Article 6, paragraph 2 of the US Constitution states, "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding." Simply put, the Constitution is the final authority. It is the first law, the trump card, for which there is nothing that can compete. It is the filter for which we sift all proposed laws through. The Constitution is indispensable and must be followed, there is no other path.
The Constitution is man's best attempt thus far at giving people the freedom to live life as they choose, free from the control and dictates of government. Individuality and individual rights thrive under the Constitution. Without government interference into personal lives, people are motivated by the chance to improve their lives and the lives of their family or even their fellow citizens. Americans with an independent, industrial, and innovative spirit combined with the freedom to nurture and grow have produced so many inventions that are common in the world today. The mass production of the automobile, the airplane, traffic light, peanut butter, the light bulb, the telephone, the polio vaccine, the sewing machine, the computer......... and these are only a few of the inventions that have been born from American ingenuity, which would be much less likely without individual worth, individual freedom, and personal liberty.
With the prosperity and fame that a common man or woman can attain in America, with American history having so many examples of innovation and success, it is puzzling to me how some Americans can strongly advocate for a collectivist system of government. Have you ever heard of a famous Russian inventor? Neither have I. A Russian invented a lollipop making machine once.......nah. It just doesn't have the same flair. How many rich Chinese philanthropists have you ever heard of? Neither have I. How about the Muslims in the middle east? Know of any big accomplishments? In the last thousand years? Neither do I. ( I know that most modern day Muslim nations are theocracies, and not communist or socialist nations, but it was too tempting to put forth the question anyway.) What is the missing ingredient? Freedom! Liberty! Individuality! Are Americans more intelligent than communists? No. Than Muslims in the middle east? No. We have placed value in the individual and the rights of the individual, which allows prosperity to grow. Combine this with the tenacity, grit, and courage that is part of our American heritage, and the result is the most successful nation the world has ever seen, the United States of America.
With such a heritage, why would we ever want to go back to the chains and slavery of socialism? We have been the beacon of light to the world, the shining city on a hill. If freedom dies in America, to whom will the world look? Critics may call my attitude arrogant. To them I ask, if America isn't that example, why have so many over the centuries flocked to her shores in search of a better life? Why do we have over 20 million illegals here? Most want to prosper in a way that would not be possible in their home nation. Look at the nations people try to get into, and look at those nations people are trying to escape, and ask yourself, "What kind of government is in each? People want to leave the communist, socialist, and theocratic states at a greater rate than those trying to get in, and greater numbers of people try to enter rather than leave nations that respect individual rights.
The Constitution is the guardian of our individuality. It is the guarantee, the gift the nation's founders gave us, that we would be respected as individuals, and government would largely remain out of our lives. We must honor this founding document, and remain vigilant, ensuring that current and future generations enjoy the liberty that God has so blessed us with.

Why the idea of government healthcare just won't "die."
3-7-10 "In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins. Not through strength, but by perseverance." A great and fitting quote for the times, and describes exactly how the progressive movement has over the last 100+ years come to be so entrenched in American society, through endless perseverance.
I follow politics more closely than the average American, and I have grown tired of this debate. I have written many columns regarding the year long push for a massive government entitlement program in the form of "healthcare." Now with a majority of Americans against the current bill, this president and the Democrat led congress insists on pushing this bill on the American people. They intend to do so with a simple majority vote, which to date has only been used with regards to passing budgets. As the Democrats have failed to sway opinion in their favor, remain determined to push their agenda on us whether we like it or not.
Congress sits with a current 18.8% approval rating and a 75.6% disapproval rating. The president has a 48.7% approval and a 45.8% disapproval rating (real clear politics). With these current approval ratings, no one can claim that President Obama has a mandate on his agenda. If Democrats push this healthcare bill through congress, and Obama signs it into law, Democrats are likely to lose a great many seats in congress this fall, possibly losing control of one or both houses of congress in the process. Obama could potentially seal his fate in 2012 by continuing to push for this version of healthcare "reform", yet they are determined to push on. This bill would result in massive spending, increasing the national debt by trillions of dollars in the short run, and at the same time dramatically increasing government bureucracy and government involvement, while doing very little to control healthcare costs in the U.S.; so given these facts, the question I have is: Why push on with it? They will not retain power by doing so. They will not control healthcare costs by doing so. They will not decrease the national debt but contribute to it's expansion.
This is a losing proposition for the Democrats if they continue to push the healthcare agenda in it's current form. They continue to push because it advances an ideological agenda that progressive, and socialist in nature, enacting total government control over the citizenry. They are willing to sacrifice their political skins to advance government control of healthcare. Once passed into law, it will be a part of the American landscape for a long, long time. Progressive socialists will take the loss at the polls, and bide their time until they again regain power. Any politician would be foolish to stand for "taking away" people's healthcare in any future elections. Medicare and Medicaid are the current examples. Do you see anyone standing up to try and take away these healthcare programs? Neither do I. Their ultimate goal is to advance an agenda of increasing government control over the citizenry.
Key Constitutional principle: The US Constitution is the highest law of the land; it trumps everything else, yet our government has many times violated Constitutional principles. Healthcare will be no different. Article 1, section 8, outlines the areas in which congress has the authority to make law. Healthcare is not mentioned, at all. Since it goes unmentioned, it is not the responsibility of the government to make law mandating healthcare for Americans. The 10th amendment to the Constitution does, however, state that , "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." This makes government funded healthcare a choice for the individual states to make, not the federal government.
Healthcare will continue to be a topic of debate until progressives achieve their goals for single (government) payer healthcare, until an overwhelming majority of Americans either support or reject a single payer system definitively, or the progressive ideology is soundly defeated and pushed from American shores. Do you believe in Freedom and Liberty? Do you have faith in the people to manage their own lives? Or do you believe that government can manage the lives of citizens better than the citizens themselves. Remember that freedom to choose means freedom to fail, and freedom to choose poorly, and government is not the benevolent entity that many see it to be. Sooner or later, you must choose your side, but I caution you....choose wisely, for you will reap what you sow.
