1-18-2010 Recent political and natural events have caused me to think about what a blessing our country is and whether it will return to its original design or continue along a path that will not bode well for its citizens or the world. All one has to do is look at the current political landscape in Washington D.C. and the tragedy occurring in Haiti to understand my claim.
Our nation was founded under the belief that all men are created equal and “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Our current administration seems to believe that all people who reside within our borders should not have to work for their success but instead should be given benefits and dollars taken from those who worked hard for it. Happiness is not guaranteed by the US Constitution just its pursuit is. Here is a shocking realization folks….life is hard. It takes work, discipline and sacrifice to be successful.
President Obamination and Congress are making every legal and illegal attempt at solidifying their agenda regardless of what the American people want or believe. The White House and Democrats have agreed to exempt health plans covered by unions from the proposed 40% tax until 2018. The Massachusetts Board of Election may delay the certification of the special election tomorrow if Scott Brown (R) wins. This will allow the Senate to pass the ill conceived and unpopular Healthcare Reform Bill. Cap and Trade (Tax), The Employee Free Choice Act (Card Check), TARP, Recovery Act (Stimulus), the list goes on and on.
As I said in the first paragraph, we are blessed as a nation. We have the highest standard of living in the world and we enjoy more freedoms than any other nation in the world. Our Judeo-Christian beliefs and wealth allows us to be the most giving nation in history. Ask the families of the over 24,000 US servicemen who are buried in France. After the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean the United States Government gave over $950 million in humanitarian aid not including military support. The corporations and people of America donated another $1.875 billion in private funds, more than any other country. Approximately one month after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005 over $1.6 billion was collected from you, me and the rest of the American public to help out the residents of the area.
When trouble hits, the world looks to the United States to lead and assist. When trouble hits us we help each other. We are a beacon of freedom and goodness to those who can only imagine the economic, religious and political prosperity we have. If this administration and Congress continues on it current path our prosperity will quickly fade. Our interests will become self centered because they will have to be in order for us to be able to exercise our most basic Right….Life. Life will no longer be about betterment of us and our communities but about survival. The citizens of the United States will neither have the funds nor the time to donate to helping others. In his attempt to unify and help the nations of the world, Obama will do the exact opposite. Common sense dictates that you cannot help your neighbor put his house in order if yours is not.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Carolina Sons of Liberty for their compassion and understanding over the past year. Shortly after CSOL was formed my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. She fought the battle tenaciously and with dignity. She lost the battle and entered into the Kingdom of Heavan to be with our Lord on November 13th, 2009. Due to my mothers illness I was unable to fulfill many of my duties with CSOL. I cannot thank them enough for their support during this very emotional and stressful period.
1-24-10 I love talking to people about politics, even Liberals and Progressives. One of the most misunderstood beliefs is that our founding fathers established a democratic form of government. That couldn’t be any farther from the truth. A democracy is rule of the people or majority rule. A republic is a system where the government is limited by law to leave the people alone. Our Founding Fathers believed in states rights over a large federal government and its ability to rule over the people. This article is not going to be a debate about what type of government we have, although it would be interesting. I would like to talk about the importance of the individual state.
The federal establishment, with the help of Progressives, has hijacked the rights of states often blackmailing the states so they fall into lock step with the wishes of the executive and legislative branches of our government. We are seeing some of our brother states starting to fight back. The state of Vermont is in discussion about lowering the drinking age back to 18. If they do, they are at risk of losing $17.5million in federal funding. Here we see States rights vs. federal thuggery (Chicago style) at work. Last week the South Carolina Senate became the 2nd legislative body in the nation to approve a resolution affirming state sovereignty. There are organized efforts in Texas to succeed from the union. It even has the backing of the Texas governor. The Montana Legislature last year passed a bill that stated guns manufactured in Montana and sold in Montana to people who intend to keep their weapons in Montana are exempt from federal gun registration, background check and dealer-licensing rules because no state lines are crossed.
Our power as voters lies more with the state and local government than it does with the federal government. Unfortunately most of our efforts, energy and interest lies with those we can affect the least. General George S. Patton said "In war the only sure defense is offense, and the efficiency of the offense depends on the warlike souls of those conducting it." This is a war, a political war. We are fighting for our ideals and freedom from government intrusion into our lives. The battle will be one at the state level. To reference Patton’s comment above, the defense is at the federal level and the offense is at the state level. The best we can hope for by electing Conservative/Libertarian candidates to national office is that things do not get worse. This is our defense. Our offense will come at the state level by electing representatives and governors who represent us and are not afraid to speak out against the federal machine.
I have fondly dubbed this upcoming decade as the Decade of the Conservative and it all started with Virginia and New Jersey going on the offense by electing new Republican governors. Then Massachusetts defended conservative principles by electing Scott Brown and stopping the disastrous healthcare bill. 2010 will be a pivotal election year for our nation. Please do not forget about your state and local races. They don’t have the glamour of the national races but they are just as if not more important. For those that live in North Carolina, issues and political races important to Carolina Sons of Liberty will be placed on our North Carolina page. We are going to save the Election Center page for national races or other state races with national significance.
The importance of the individual state and your vote cannot be overlooked. It can be summed up best by our greatest Founding Father, Thomas Jefferson
“The true theory of our Constitution is surely the wisest and best, that the States are independent as to everything within themselves, and united as to everything respecting foreign affairs. Let the General Government be reduced to foreign concerns only, and let our affairs be disentangled from those of all other nations, except as to commerce, which the merchants will manage the better, the more they are left free to manage for themselves, and our General Government may be reduced to a very simple organization, and a very inexpensive one; a few plain duties to be performed by a few servants.”
