The Second Amendment
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
What is the Right to Keep and Bear Arms?
"The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed......."
These words have long been spoken by those who are advocates of self protection and protection from government. They are in our Constitution, and have been a source of strength for many Americans, and a source of irritation for others.
In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that individual citizens do in fact have the right to keep and bear arms. Game, set, and match; right? Wrong. For many years, foes of the Second Amendment have argued that individuals did not have the right to personally own and carry firearms. They lost that argument in 2008. They have now shifted into high gear with other ideas to limit individual possession of firearms, using ideas such as limiting ammunition sales, excessive taxes on firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition. These ideas are not new, and have been tried before, successful in some areas of the country, and failing in others. These tactics amount to nothing more than an end run to try and get around individual rights to keep and bear arms, and it's shameful.
For those of you who just don't care either way, let me predict something. After your right to keep and bear arms is taken away, The remainder of the Bill of Rights is soon to follow. If they can trample on one amendment, they will trample on all of them. They will overstep their bounds, it is inevitable. That is why your founding fathers wrote a bill of rights; for you and for your individual freedoms. We already see the rumblings. People have been labeled "right wing extremists" for speaking out and disagreeing with the democrat led congress and the democrat (Fascist leaning) President. It is well enough in their minds to speak out against the "evil warmongering Republicans". That's what Liberals call "your first amendment rights". When Conservatives and Libertarians speak out, a warning is issued that they may be "extremists" and "potential terrorists". A bit off topic, but I only mean to show you one other example of how your Bill of Rights is eroding away before you, and how do the people respond to this? Both sides of the political spectrum has many who respond with thundering applause.
We as a people must oppose this oppression every time they attempt to advance their agenda. It's not just about us being able to legally possess firearms. It's about living free, and holding on tightly to the values and ideals that the nations founders laid out. We advocate for all of the Bill of Rights, not just the Second Amendment. Stand together with us to protect not only the Second Amendment, but all Rights. Ronald Regan said (to paraphrase) that freedom is only one generation away from extinction, and that we must remain active and vigilant. We must guard Freedom and Liberty. Stand with us, Ladies and Gentlemen. It's our turn to protect Freedom and ensure continued Liberty. God Bless.

Business Boycott List:
This is for those businesses who have posted signs barring those with concealed carry permits from legally carrying on their premises. These businesses have the right to do so on their own property. We at CSOL are huge property rights advocates, however, we do not encourage patronizing those businesses who would deny a person their legal right to protection.

The Gun is Civilization
by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret)
(This was sent to me VIA e-mail on 4-28-10 by a friend. I thought it appropriate to share, and my thanks to Major L. Caudill, USMC, for writing this.)
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it.
In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.
When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.
The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.
There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we'd be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger's potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat--it has no validity when most of a mugger's potential marks are armed.
People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that's the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.
Then there's the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser.
People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don't constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.
The gun is the only weapon that's as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn't work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn't both lethal and easily employable.
When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.
